Region 425 AYSO’s EXTRA (Travel) Program FAQ
What is “Extra”? AYSO’s “Extra” program is for U-10 and U-12 players,
and involves an additional 90 minute practice with professional trainers and an
additional game on the weekends against other teams in nearby Regions. In
addition, EXTRA teams participate in playoffs at the end of the spring. Roster
spots are limited and therefore Region 425 holds tryouts to select team
Do I still play Primary
AYSO? Yes, there is a pre-requisite
that all EXTRA players continue to participate in the Primary AYSO program for
both games and practices. Players are required to make at least 50% of their
Primary AYSO team games. EXTRA is
just that….EXTRA Play!!
What are the age cutoffs? Do
they vary from Primary AYSO teams? Yes,
there is an age cutoff. Primary AYSO is based on grade while EXTRA is based on
birth date. See chart below for details:

Who do we play against? Games are played against
other teams in Area 6D. The other
Regions in our Area are Deerfield, Morton Grove, Highland Park, Rolling
Meadows, Skokie, Glenview, Evanston, Peterson Park, Rogers Park, and Chicago
Lakefront. Not all of these
Regions will have EXTRA teams.
When and where are the games? The games will not conflict with the
primary game schedules. At this point U10s will still play their core AYSO
games on Sundays and U12s will play their core AYSO games on Saturdays. The
games and practices will start after the school year begins. The schedule for EXTRA
games has not yet been determined but game times will be at 4 or 5pm on

will be held at Corwin. At this point in time we are anticipating that practices
will be conducted on Mondays from 4:30-6.
Who coaches the teams? Teams
are coached by volunteer U12 certified coaches. Professional trainers assist coaches for one hour of the 90
minute weekly practices. Volunteers coach the games. Qualified coaches are necessary for EXTRA teams.

player is not registered for the 2012-2013 season at the time of tryouts,
parents need to fill out a waiver for participation. Email Lindsay@ayso425.com to request a waiver.
What is the cost? There is no cost for tryouts. Cost for the program is
$315. A $150 non-refundable
deposit is due within 5 business days after the player is informed that they
made the team. If not paid, your slot will be offered to the next player on the
list. The balance is due 30 days later.
players be rated at try-outs? Players may be evaluated by UK trainers on all aspects of
AYSO soccer: Dribbling, Passing, Ball
Control, Athleticism and Attitude. Attitude includes ability to listen and
follow instruction, and preparedness with proper equipment.

my friend? Joining the EXTRA program
is based on tryouts and evaluation by the AYSO EXTRA staff. As such, we will
always take into account the social aspects of “sport” but final teams will be
formed primarily on skill and the supporting AYSO principles.

requires more travel and commitment, so it may not be right for everyone. This
program was designed for serious soccer players and their families and may not
be appropriate for strong athletes who compete in many sports. All players will
be asked to declare their commitment level to the program and that will also be
a factor in the final player selection.
